How age is calculated
Age is computed calendar-accurately: full years first, then full months, then remaining days — the same convention used on official forms, exams and legal documents in India. Leap years are handled correctly.
Where exact age matters
- Competitive exams (UPSC, SSC, NEET, JEE): eligibility is checked as on a specific cutoff date — use the "Age as on" field for that date.
- Insurance: premiums often jump at "age nearest birthday" — knowing your exact age helps time a purchase.
- School admissions: most states require a minimum age as on 1 June or 1 April of the academic year.
FAQs
How are months counted when the day doesn't exist (e.g. 31st)?
We borrow days from the previous month using actual month lengths — the standard civil convention. Different tools may differ by a day in edge cases; official bodies use the date-as-on convention this tool follows.
Is my date of birth stored?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser and nothing is transmitted or saved.
